Meadows – 张钰卿 YUQING ZHANG

This series stems from my interest in looking down at the meadows. It started with a watercolor painting in 2019, then with acrylic, ink and gouache , and plush toys as well;all of those are attempts to hold onto seasons and the tiny or delicate plants. I use bright colors in most of the works in this series to convey the fresh atmosphere of the natural environment.

这个系列源于我对低头看草地的兴趣，从2019年关于这个主题的第一张纸本水彩开始，纸本丙烯、墨水、水粉，到毛绒玩具，这一切尝试都是一种想要留住季节和纤弱植物的渴望。我在这个系列大部分作品中都使用鲜艳的色彩，以传递自然环境里的鲜活气氛。

This painting was created at Maling Ancient Trail in Tonglu,Zhejiang. Since painting in the mountains wasn’t easy, I only brought one small piece of paper up the hill each day. Over the course of a week, I eventually pieced them together to complete this work.The pink flowers in the foreground are called Rehmannia chingii Li, a plant species unique to China. Scattered across the damp soil were pine needles,and I chose to paint them pink as well. Those delicate, intertwined wild grasses also deeply captured my attention. I didn’t want this moist, beautiful spring to fade; I didn’t want those fragile plants to disappear. So I kept them all, right here in my painting.

这张画画于桐庐县的马岭古道，由于在山上写生的不便，所以我每次只带一张更小的纸上山，在一个星期的时间里，最终拼合成了这张画。画的前方粉色的花朵叫天目地黄，是一种在中国特有的植物，而湿润的土地上散落着松针，我把它们也画成了粉色。那些纤弱的、交错的草本植物也深深地吸引了我的注意力，我不想这个湿润的美丽的春天逝去，不想要那些纤弱的草本植物消亡，所以我把它们都留在了我的画面里。

The Spring that you could touch, fabrics and threads,© Yuqing Zhang(张钰卿) 2021 I looked down at the meadow, the tiny plants on it have rich structures, so cute but so fragile that I dare not touch them.As a result, I created these soft but tough toys.
